Tie Them All Up & Start Over Again

Midnight on the coast
Blanket up to our chins shivering underneath the silent still of the sky
Salt water waves breaking at the foot of our makeshift camp
Lips against skin against lips against teeth
Pressing against you to hold in the heat
Among other things

Sunrise in your apartment
I'm wide awake, you won't be up for hours
Put the water to boil - coffee for me, tea for you
Raid your tiny bookshelf till I find something suitable for morning reading
In this space we share, you let me decorate your home
Make a little space to call my own

Rainbows outside my bedroom window
You always comment on that bible story, I always say it's just so pretty
Wandering into that wide open space you call my mind
The intersection of lines and color ...
Kissing me to shut me up, because you know I'll go on forever
And you know I will, because I always do
I hope this does, too

Alligator tears landing on the steps outside your parent's house
She's sick again, the doctors faces are weary
What can I do for you, what do we do now?
Feeling so out of place, I'm not strong enough
Sorting through her things with you
How can I tell you I love you without risking insincerity?
I love you.

Smiling pictures with a ring on my finger
Sending out announcements, stamping envelopes
Crying because I'm unbearably ecstatic
Crying because we have to create a joint bank account
Lips against skin against belly buttons against palms
Building a new life with you
