Keep your bulletproof bullshit - that's not what life is about.
Life's about making mistakes. And more importantly, about forgiving yourself and moving on. Nobody looks back on their teenage years, their 20's, the years they spent growing up and growing into themselves and sees no mistakes, no regrets. You don't reach the end of your life laying on a bed with four wheels in a gray colored hospital room able to count your mistakes on one hand... or two hands, or three, or four. Making mistakes is what makes us human, it's what links us - no matter our age, location, beliefs, education - we all fuck up.
Life's about creating opportunity. Bulletproof people cannot create opportunity because they won't allow themselves to open up enough to do so. Because they're afraid. They're afraid of failure, of being hurt and becoming a part of someone's past - forgotten. Opportunity doesn't knock, it doesn't hide around corners, it simply waits in the wings for somebody strong enough to create it. Shutting yourself off to the possibilities and wonders of the world and the inhabitants of it is like shutting yourself off to any possible failure as well as any possible opportunity.
Life's about loving, and losing love, and pushing love out of the picture. Love is not always beautiful, it doesn't have braided hair and paisley printed skirts and muted sepia tones. It's dirty, it's raw and real, it's rough around the edges and can leave you with a jaded taste in your mouth. Believing that it's worth it - that's living. Appreciating any circumstance, even if your heart can't appreciate it at the moment, that's what life is about. Finding inspiration when you're surrounded by pain can be the most liberating experience of your young life. So how then can a person who makes themselves bulletproof experience love? How can they share with somebody else, how can they understand the deep sorrow that comes with experiencing loss?
Life isn't about being the best, or the smartest, the prettiest or the most liked. It's not about being nominated for the coveted high school senior superlatives. It's not focused on how strong you are, or seem, or aspire to be. It's not how many hearts you break, what's left locked in your closet at the end of each night, how lonely you are when you let yourself think about it. Life's about whatever you want it to be, it's about other people and new experiences. It's about growth and gained knowledge, shared truths and heated debates, beauty in the natural world and passion for something - anything!
Yeah so fuck you La Roux. Your songs are damn catchy, though.
