Wake Up!

You must have a pretty small minded god if you think he/she actually cares about your political standing. I am becoming increasingly irritated of "Christians" (which, uh, last time I checked means Christ-follower, and I'm pretty positive Jesus Christ wasn't a blatant hater, so why are you?) making fun of our president and pretending like it's some calling from god to attack the Democratic party. Guess what? I bet Jesus was stoked that Barak Obama was elected president, he was probably like, "Yahoo! Eat one Republican party, you got to hold it down for the last 8 years, now check this out!" One of the many reasons organized religion makes me want to puke is the immense impact it has on group think. I firmly believe that one of the worst things you could do to yourself is immerse yourself in a culture where everybody thinks the same thing, uses the same verbage and talks the same way, and believes the same exact things. No culture should be so homogeneous. Because do you know what that leads to? It leads to mass suicides (see also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYZD7Y-PDEk), it leads to group think (http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/riseofhitler/party.htm), it leads to the dumbing down of so many intelligent, thoughtful people that, if found in different cirucmstances, could probably accomplish some pretty great things. But instead here they are, assassinating presidents and bombing buildings in the name of some holy calling. Twelve year olds carrying machine guns, women and children and families being split apart and murdered and sold into the trade of human life because of some age-old war that their great great grandparents started and they continue to carry out. White supremacy, homosexual intolerance, forced morals and values and strict codes of conduct for their members. Memorization of writings and scriptures, similar paintings on the walls and ceilings of every religious house of worship. Terms like "Sunday best" and prayers and chants that everybody somehow seems to know. Using the same terminology, "that was a very moving message, pastor," or how about, "the worship just didn't really fulfill me, spiritually." WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? Sounds a little too familiar, doesn't it?
