My latest online find (of which there are plenty, thanks to unemployment) is Flavorpill/Flavorwire. It's a website that is half local events in your city of choice (Pill), and half cultural news/critique society blog (Wire). You can sign up for your own "personalized" updates that will send to your email as often (or not often) as you like - I get mine once a week. Listed below are my favorite sections on Flavorwire this week:
My personal favorite from the article? The "Book Barge," a floating bookstore in the UK that travels up the canal and changes locations constantly.

I'm surprised! Boston, really? I thought they were all fun, East coast-y, accent speaking, basketball loving alcoholics! Whom, apparently, dress terribly. Manhattan - is that weird? I guess it's weird in my mind because I think of NYC as being the most fashionable place in the world, ever - thanks Gossip Girl. Jersey Shore coming in at #19... thought that would be a lot higher. San Francisco? #20. Definitely should be higher than that, the people here dress bizarrely. Not in a good way. Portland - #36. Ohhh, Portland. Where young people go to retire, and dress terribly.
